The Glorious Revolution was a time of turmoil and resentment towards King James II who was forced into exile by the people of England. Protestant rule resumed with the ascension of William of Orange and Mary to the throne. Mary was the eldest daughter of James II but took the throne with her husband to settle disputes and regain confidence with Parliament which her father destroyed.  In return, Parliament granted then the throne of England in exchange for the English Constitution which would progress the shift from monarchy to Parliament.
